Kenyan activists abducted in Uganda amid election tensions; rights groups condemn cross-border crackdown.
Two Kenyan activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, were abducted in Kampala, Uganda, on October 1 by armed men believed to be security officers while attending a rally for opposition leader Bobi Wine ahead of the 2026 election.
The incident occurred at a petrol station in Kireka, where witnesses reported four armed individuals in a grey van taking the men, briefly detaining a companion before releasing him.
Their phones went silent afterward.
The Free Kenya Movement confirmed their disappearance and demanded their immediate release and court appearance within 24 hours.
Human rights groups, including VOCAL Africa, condemned the abduction, linking it to a broader pattern of cross-border harassment of activists in East Africa.
Njagi has a prior history of being abducted during anti-government protests in 2023.
