Isuzu starts $280M U.S. plant in South Carolina to build commercial trucks, hiring 700+ by 2027 with electric-ready production.
Isuzu Motors has begun construction on a $280 million assembly plant in Greenville, South Carolina, its first wholly owned U.S. facility, set to produce light- and medium-duty commercial trucks starting in early 2027.
The plant, expected to employ over 700 people and reach annual production of up to 50,000 vehicles by 2030, will use a flexible production line capable of adapting to future demand, including electric models.
While most components will be sourced domestically, some parts like truck cabs will come from Japan and face a 15% tariff under a recent U.S. trade agreement.
The project, supported by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Japanese officials, marks a major boost to the region’s manufacturing sector.
