At the 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in South Africa, India’s Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, highlighted India’s disaster management progress, citing the 2005 Disaster Management Act, the National Disaster Response Force, and advanced early warning systems, including globally recognized cyclone forecasts and mobile apps like Damini, Mausam, and Meghdoot.
He emphasized India’s global leadership through the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and its support for the Sendai Framework, calling for increased international cooperation, financing for vulnerable nations, integration of disaster studies in education, and a global knowledge repository.
