President John Dramani Mahama launched Ghana’s 2025 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, warning that cybercriminals—including both Ghanaians and foreigners—will face prosecution and possible extradition.
Speaking in Accra on October 1, 2025, he highlighted rising threats like mobile money fraud and romance scams, citing INTERPOL’s Operation Contender 3.0, which led to 68 arrests in Ghana and $450,000 in losses, with $70,000 recovered.
He debunked common scams, stressing that banks and telecoms never request personal data over the phone, and revealed that some frauds involve insiders within financial institutions, with several employees already arrested and punished.
