Ghana to address nine-month unpaid salaries for 7,000 nurses and midwives in upcoming budget.
Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko confirmed on October 2, 2025, that unpaid salaries for 7,000 nurses and midwives—accumulated over nine to ten months—will be addressed in the upcoming national budget.
The workers, officially recruited starting in 2020 and deployed in 2024, have faced severe financial hardship, with some unable to afford food or medical care.
While no payment timeline was given, Nyarko acknowledged the government’s responsibility and pledged urgent action.
The protest, led by the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives, highlighted systemic delays in public sector pay, with the Finance Minister expected to present the new budget in Parliament within a month.
