Germany delays F126 frigate program to 2031–2032 due to IT issues, reviewing transfer to German shipyard.
Germany is reviewing its €10 billion F126 frigate program after major delays pushed the first delivery from 2028 to as late as 2031 or 2032 due to IT system issues.
The project, originally awarded to Dutch shipbuilder Damen Naval, is on hold while the defense ministry assesses next steps, including potential transfer to German shipyard NVL, which may be acquired by Rheinmetall.
Existing frigates will be upgraded to remain in service until 2035 as Germany accelerates naval modernization amid ongoing security concerns.
No final decisions have been made.
