Essex launches a plan to restore 130,000 hectares of habitat by 2030, aiming to boost biodiversity and sustainable farming.
The Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), launched on September 23 at Cressing Temple Barns, aims to restore natural habitats across over 130,000 hectares—about one-third of the county—by 2030. Developed by farmers, landowners, environmental groups, and local authorities, the plan targets increasing high-quality habitats from 14% to 25%, with 50% of farms adopting sustainable practices. It focuses on improving wildlife connectivity, water quality, pollinator and bird populations, and promoting green tourism. The launch drew over 130 attendees, including representatives from Natural England, the RSPB, and the Essex Wildlife Trust. For more information, visit www.essexnaturepartnership.com.
