Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson, 37, has retired after a 17-year NHL career, concluding with a Stanley Cup win in 2022.
Drafted first overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2006, he played parts of 14 seasons with Colorado, ranking second in franchise history among defensemen in games played (731) and holding the team record for blocked shots (1,373).
He also played for the Blues, Buffalo Sabres, and Philadelphia Flyers, recording 95 goals and 253 assists in 1,023 career games.
Johnson earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics and a bronze at the 2013 IIHF World Championship.
He announced his retirement through the Avalanche, expressing gratitude to his teams, coaches, fans, and family.
