Daniel McJannett denied bail in Queensland over 2023 murder charges in case involving fatal attack on father of two.
Daniel McJannett, 39, has been denied bail in Queensland Supreme Court on charges related to the 2023 murder of Matthew Berry, a father of two, whose body was found with fatal injuries at his Mount Tamborine home.
McJannett, a former groomsman at Berry’s wedding, faces murder, theft of CCTV equipment, and cannabis possession charges.
Prosecutors argued he poses a high risk of fleeing or reoffending due to a history of drug and weapons offenses, including prior convictions while on bail.
Despite McJannett’s claim he would seek work and counseling if released, Justice Peter Callaghan ruled bail was inappropriate given the strength of the case and the severity of potential sentencing.
Both sides agree the case should proceed quickly to trial.
