Chapman’s, Canada’s largest independent ice cream maker, is expanding its Markdale, Ont., plant with a $200-million, 175,000-square-foot addition, making it North America’s largest single-site ice cream producer.
The project, backed by a $27-million interest-free Ontario loan, will add about 200 jobs, raising total employment to over 1,000.
Despite rising tariffs and economic pressures, the family-owned company reports record revenues, has frozen prices through 2025 to help combat food insecurity, and is expanding its product line with allergen-free, low-calorie, and Canadian-inspired flavors.
It has shifted sourcing from the U.S. to Europe to reduce supply chain risks and is capitalizing on the Buy Canadian movement, while supplying major retailers like Loblaws and Sobeys.
