A Canadian contractor was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for defrauding homeowners of $360,000.
Scott Eisemann, a Brechin contractor, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for defrauding homeowners in Simcoe and Muskoka of about $360,000 between 2017 and 2020 through his company, Cottage Life Construction.
He took money for renovation projects he never completed, issued bouncing postdated cheques, and the company later filed for insolvency.
Charged in 2021 after victims reported him, Eisemann initially pleaded guilty to seven fraud counts in 2024 but later tried to withdraw his plea, claiming coercion—dismissed by the court.
He was convicted of one fraud count and sentenced to three years.
While on bail, he violated conditions by possessing a cellphone and pleaded guilty to that offense, dropping his appeal.
He expressed remorse in court, citing prior incarceration as a turning point, though some victims questioned his sincerity.
He must repay his victims.
