Australian grain growers are being polled on reducing GRDC levies amid record reserves and calls for greater input.
Grain Producers Australia has launched a survey asking grain growers to share their views on the future of the Grains Research and Development Corporation’s levy system, the first time growers have been formally consulted on rates unchanged since 2008.
The independent poll, running for three weeks, seeks input on whether current levy levels remain appropriate amid the GRDC’s record $730 million in reserves and rising production.
Early results show strong support for potential rate reductions and greater grower involvement, with 69% favoring cuts and 89% wanting a say in decisions.
The survey also explores spending priorities, including biosecurity, and will be anonymous with aggregated results shared publicly.
