The Asian Development Bank has approved a final $299 million loan, completing $1.05 billion in financing for India’s Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System.
The 82-kilometer rail line, part of the National Capital Region’s priority infrastructure, cuts travel time between Delhi and Meerut from over three hours to about one hour.
As of August 2025, 55 kilometers are operational with 11 stations in service.
Designed for high-speed, frequent commuter service at up to 180 km/h, the system aims to reduce carbon emissions by over 258,000 tons annually and support sustainable urban growth.
ADB provided technical assistance, and the project is implemented by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation with co-financing from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Japan Fund.
