A 27-year-old woman accused of placing a 2-year-old child in a suitcase on a Northland bus in August has been granted electronically monitored bail with permanent name suppression, as the child is a protected complainant. The child, found hot but unharmed after about an hour in the suitcase, was hospitalized for evaluation and is now medically well. Police charged her with neglect, citing risks of suffocation, heat exhaustion, and trauma. Her mental fitness to stand trial remains under review, and she is engaged with community mental health services. The next hearing is set for December 2.
