Florida executed Victor Jones for 1990 murders, marking its highest execution year on record.
Victor Tony Jones, 64, was executed by lethal injection on September 30, 2025, at Florida State Prison, becoming the 13th person put to death in Florida this year—the state’s highest annual total on record.
Jones was convicted in 1993 for the 1990 robbery-related murders of Miami couple Matilda and Jacob Nestor, during which he stabbed Matilda and wounded Jacob, who fired five shots before dying.
Found at the scene with the victims’ belongings, Jones had his appeals denied, including claims of intellectual disability and past abuse.
The execution, carried out without complications, was attended by the victims’ daughter, who said she felt closure.
Florida now leads the U.S. in executions for 2025, surpassing its prior record of eight in 2014, with at least 34 executions nationwide this year.
