UK pledges 8,500 new mental health workers, £15.6B funding, and care reforms by 2025-26.
The UK government has committed to recruiting 8,500 more mental health workers by the end of Parliament, stating it is more than halfway to the goal after a viral petition highlighted staffing shortages.
It will spend £15.6 billion on mental health in 2025-26, including £615 million to replace dormitories with private rooms, £750 million for safety upgrades, and £75 million to reduce long-distance care.
The government is also expanding 24/7 neighbourhood mental health centres, increasing crisis care access to 85 locations, and advancing a 10-year workforce and care transformation plan, all part of broader reforms through the ongoing Mental Health Bill.
