South Korea's online shopping hit a record high in August 2025, reaching 22.48 trillion won ($16.5 billion), a 6.6% year-on-year increase, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics.
The surge was led by a 55.1% jump in car and auto accessory sales, driven by strong demand for new Tesla models.
Food and beverage sales rose 5.8%, online food delivery grew 9.0%, and e-coupon use increased 8.6%.
Mobile shopping accounted for 79.4% of total online sales, up 8.9% to 17.85 trillion won, marking the highest August level since 2017.
