Rajesh Agrawal, a senior IAS officer, has become India’s new Commerce Secretary.

Rajesh Agrawal, a 1994-batch IAS officer from Manipur, has officially assumed the role of Secretary in the Department of Commerce, succeeding retiring officer Sunil Barthwal. With over 30 years of experience, Agrawal has led key initiatives in trade negotiations, including agreements with the U.S., Australia, and ASEAN, and played a central role in promoting agricultural exports and MSME development. He previously served as additional secretary in the Department of Commerce and has held senior positions in skilling, power, and fertilizers. A graduate in statistics and operations research, Agrawal brings extensive expertise in economic policy and international trade to his new role.
