Phoenix man arrested in 2010 murder after 15-year DNA match.
Edgar Mendoza, 35, was arrested in Phoenix on Sept. 29, 2025, in connection with the 2010 murder of 69-year-old Walter Zimmer, whose body was found at a bus stop with signs of injury.
No witnesses or surveillance footage were available at the time, but physical evidence collected included a DNA profile that remained unidentified for 15 years.
Advances in DNA analysis through the national CODIS database led investigators to Mendoza, who was taken into custody and confessed during questioning.
The case, reopened by cold case detectives, resulted in charges including second-degree murder and probation violation.
