Pennsylvania advances bill banning smoking and vaping in most bars, clubs, and near public entrances.
Pennsylvania’s House Health Committee advanced House Bill 880, which would ban smoking and vaping in most bars, clubs, casinos, and near public facility entrances, expanding the state’s 2008 Clean Indoor Air Act.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, aims to protect workers and visitors from secondhand smoke by closing existing loopholes, including exemptions for private clubs and limited-service bars.
It also includes e-cigarettes in the definition of smoking and allows local governments to impose stricter rules.
While supporters cite public health benefits, some opponents, including Rep. Yvonne Stefanini, R-Bradford, argue it represents government overreach and could harm businesses.
The bill now moves to the full House for further consideration.
