Nubank seeks U.S. national bank charter to offer banking services in America.
Nubank, Brazil’s largest digital bank, has applied for a U.S. national bank charter through the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a key step toward expanding into the American market.
The move, if approved, would allow the company to offer deposits, credit cards, lending, and digital asset custody in the U.S., serving both existing and new customers.
The application reflects Nubank’s broader strategy to grow globally while maintaining focus on its core markets in Latin America.
The company, which serves nearly 123 million customers and reported record revenue in Q2 2025, is led in the U.S. by Cristina Junqueira, with former Brazilian central bank chief Roberto Campos Neto on its board.
The OCC is reviewing the application, with no timeline for a decision.
