New Zealand named Jan Dawson chair of ACC to fix delays and poor outcomes in injury compensation.
New Zealand has appointed Jan Dawson as the new Chair of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), effective immediately, following a push to improve the agency’s performance.
Dawson, a seasoned governance leader with roles at the Port of Auckland, Serko, and KPMG, has been on the ACC Board since June 2024 and was named Deloitte’s Top 200 Chairperson of the Year in 2024.
Minister Scott Simpson cited poor rehabilitation outcomes and delays in returning injured people to work as key reasons for the change, emphasizing the need for stronger leadership to restore ACC’s founding promise of fast, client-focused support.
Dawson will lead a turnaround effort focused on accountability, performance, and better outcomes.
Interim Chair David Hunt will remain on the board.
