Lead Balloon Productions bought the historic Kalamazoo State Theatre to restore and reopen by its 2027 centennial.
The historic Kalamazoo State Theatre, closed since 2020, has been purchased by Lead Balloon Productions, co-owned by Dan and Holly Carmichael, who plan to restore and reopen it by its 100th anniversary in 2027.
The couple, longtime local residents with no prior theater experience, emphasized preservation, safety, accessibility, and modernization.
They acquired the 98-year-old venue and adjacent building from the Hinman Company, with support from city officials and actor Jeff Daniels.
No reopening date has been set, but updates will be posted at state-theatre.org.
