Irish MEP Barry Cowen is part of a European Parliament delegation visiting India from October 27 to 29 to advance talks on a major EU-India trade agreement, now in an advanced stage after resuming in 2022.
Agriculture has been formally included in negotiations, signaling progress toward a final deal.
The delegation will meet with top Indian ministers and industry leaders, including visits to sustainability initiatives like a textile recycling hub in Panipat.
Cowen highlighted the potential for Irish exporters—especially in whiskey, dairy, pharmaceuticals, and nutrition—to gain better access to India’s large and growing market, noting a tenfold rise in Irish whiskey exports over five years.
He stressed the need for a fair, sustainable agreement that maintains European standards and protects farmers while opening opportunities amid global trade uncertainty.
