India’s President honored the 75th anniversary of the elite Presidential Bodyguard with a new banner and trumpet, recognizing its 252-year legacy and dual ceremonial-combat role.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu presented the Diamond Jubilee Silver Trumpet and Banner to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) on September 30, 2025, marking 75 years since its 1950 designation.
The ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan honored the PBG’s legacy as India’s oldest military regiment, tracing back to 1773, and highlighted its dual role in ceremonial duties and combat readiness.
The elite unit, the only airborne cavalry regiment in the world, serves as the President’s personal guard and has participated in all major conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
The new banner features six values chosen by the President, and the event included a tribute to Viraat, the retired commandant’s charger adopted by the regiment.
