India’s antitrust watchdog investigates PVR INOX over alleged anti-competitive digital fee charges.
The Competition Commission of India has launched a 90-day investigation into PVR INOX over allegations of unfairly charging film producers a virtual digital fee (VDF) despite India’s full transition to digital cinema.
The probe, prompted by a complaint from the Film and Television Producers’ Guild, found a prima facie violation of competition law, with concerns that PVR INOX’s continued fees—while exempting major Hollywood studios—discriminate against smaller producers and restrict competition.
The CCI will examine whether the fees constitute anti-competitive behavior, with findings expected by January 2026.
