India has approved an ₹11,440 crore, six-year mission to boost domestic pulses production, aiming for self-sufficiency by 2030-31.
The initiative targets increasing output to 350 million tonnes, expanding cultivation to 310 million hectares, and raising yields to 1,130 kg per hectare.
Key measures include distributing 126 lakh quintals of certified seeds, providing 88 lakh free seed kits for rice fallow areas, establishing 1,000 processing units with subsidies, and ensuring guaranteed procurement of tur, urad, and masoor pulses at MSP through NAFED and NCCF.
The program will support farmers with training, climate-resilient seed development, improved storage, and global price monitoring to reduce import dependence, enhance incomes, and promote sustainable farming.
