India approves ₹4,645.6 crore for disaster recovery and flood mitigation in nine states, including major wetland and urban flood projects.
A high-level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved ₹4,645.6 crore in disaster mitigation and recovery funding for nine Indian states, including Assam, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh.
The funds, from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, support wetland restoration in Assam to improve flood resilience, urban flood management in 11 cities, and recovery efforts after recent floods and landslides.
A major component includes a ₹692.05 crore wetland project in Assam, with ₹519.04 crore from the Centre, and Phase-2 of the Urban Flood Risk Management Programme for 11 cities, totaling ₹2,444.42 crore with 90% central funding.
