A four-year-old boy missing from a remote Australian station for five days is likely near the property, police say, after a matching footprint was found.
A four-year-old boy named Gus went missing from a remote sheep station near Yunta, South Australia, on Saturday, sparking a large-scale search in extreme heat.
On Tuesday night, a significant breakthrough occurred when a small footprint matching Gus’s boots was found about 500 meters from the property, offering renewed hope.
Authorities confirmed the print is likely from a child and believe Gus may have wandered off while playing in the sand near the homestead.
Despite the promising lead, police have prepared the family for the possibility of shifting from search to recovery operations due to the harsh conditions and five days without food, water, or shelter.
Search efforts involve ground teams, drones, helicopters, dogs, and a specialist tracker.
The boy, described as adventurous with long blond curly hair, was last seen wearing a grey sun hat, a cobalt blue T-shirt with a yellow minion, light grey pants, and boots.
Police have ruled out foul play and continue searching.
