Four Richland County deputies were shot during a high-speed chase and subsequent confrontation with 23-year-old Renardo Tyson in Columbia, South Carolina, early September 30, 2025. Tyson fled after a traffic stop, crashed his vehicle, and opened fire on deputies, who returned fire. All four deputies were injured but are expected to recover. Tyson was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, arrested, and is expected to be transferred to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Authorities recovered a stolen pistol with an extended magazine from his car. Dashcam and Ring camera footage captured the incident, which sparked community concern.
