76ers rookie Jared McCain to miss 4+ weeks with thumb surgery, likely out for first 4–5 games.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain will miss at least four weeks after surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb, sustained during an offseason workout. The 21-year-old rookie, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 draft, is expected to be reevaluated in about four weeks, likely missing the first four to five games of the regular season. He had previously averaged 15.3 points and 2.6 assists in 23 games before a season-ending knee injury in December. The team may turn to rookie VJ Edgecombe or unsigned restricted free agent Quentin Grimes in his absence. The 76ers open the season on October 22 against the Boston Celtics.
