Atlanta launches $5B plan to revitalize South and West sides with housing, transit, and safety investments.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has launched a $5 billion Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative to revitalize underserved areas in the city’s South and West sides, focusing on infrastructure, transit, affordable housing, public safety, and small business support.
The plan, funded through expiring tax allocation districts, includes $1.9 billion for transit, $1.5 billion for trails and greenspace, $1.3 billion for housing, and investments in health centers, recreation, and commercial development.
Officials cite a 44% drop in homicides, over 11,000 new affordable housing units, and a 90.5% public school graduation rate in 2025 as progress.
The initiative targets neighborhoods like the Beltline, Perry Bolton, and Hollowell/MLK, aiming to reduce disparities and improve quality of life.
