Tamil Nadu CM Stalin opened a new flyover in Chennai to ease traffic and announced aid after a deadly stampede.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the J. Anbazhagan Flyover in Chennai’s T. Nagar on September 30, a Rs 164.92 crore, 1.2 km steel structure connecting South Usman Road and CIT Nagar First Main Road. The flyover, named after former DMK leader J. Anbazhagan, forms a 2 km elevated corridor with an existing flyover, aiming to ease traffic congestion in one of Chennai’s busiest commercial areas. The project is expected to improve commute times for thousands of daily travelers from nearby neighborhoods. In a separate statement, Stalin expressed sorrow over the Karur stampede that killed 41 people, announcing ₹10 lakh ex-gratia for each family, free medical care for the injured, and a one-member inquiry commission. He urged responsible event planning and warned against spreading misinformation online.
