Sonam Wangchuk’s wife denies police claims of Pakistani ties, calling them false and politically motivated.
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, has denied Ladakh police allegations that her husband had ties with a Pakistani intelligence operative, calling the claims false and politically driven.
She said he attended a UN-organized climate conference in Pakistan, which included participation by the media outlet Dawn, and emphasized that such international environmental engagement does not equate to disloyalty.
Angmo highlighted Wangchuk’s nationally recognized work on solar-heated buildings and Ice Stupa projects, used by the Indian Army, and questioned how someone honored by the government could be labeled anti-national.
She criticized his detention on September 24 without a formal order, describing ongoing curfew restrictions, house arrest, and the arbitrary detention of staff and students at the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives.
Angmo defended his advocacy for Ladakh’s inclusion in the Sixth Schedule as a democratic and environmental cause, not anti-nationalism, and condemned the use of force and surveillance as undermining peaceful dissent.
La esposa de Sonam Wangchuk niega las afirmaciones policiales de vínculos con Pakistán, calificándolas de falsas y políticamente motivadas.
