Ohio senator urges Intel to redirect unused power from delayed chip plant to Meta’s data center.
Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno is urging Intel to redirect 200 megawatts of unused electricity from its delayed Ohio chip plant to Meta’s expanding data center in New Albany.
He cited repeated delays pushing completion to 2030 and 2031, despite state and federal support, including CHIPS Act grants.
Moreno questioned Intel’s power usage and demanded a 30-day update on project status, economic impact, and energy reallocation plans.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and American Electric Power have raised concerns over growing demand from tech firms, with AEP investing over $95 million in infrastructure for Intel.
Meta has not commented on the request.
