A lockdown at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland ended Tuesday morning after about 15 minutes following a reported suicide threat involving a 51-year-old man with a handgun.
Authorities were alerted near the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, and the man arrived on campus, prompting a shelter-in-place order at 9:15 a.m. Police, including crisis negotiators, engaged him in dialogue and peacefully apprehended him without injury.
He was taken to a hospital for evaluation, with no charges expected.
The college resumed normal operations by 9:30 a.m., and officials confirmed the situation was resolved.
