flag Indian man extradited to NY after 20 years for 2005 crash that killed father of two.

Ganesh Shenoy, a 54-year-old Indian citizen, was extradited from India to Nassau County, New York, on September 27, 2025, marking the first U.S.-India extradition in 17 years. He faces second-degree manslaughter charges for a 2005 crash in Hicksville that killed Philip Mastropolo, 44, a father of two. Prosecutors allege Shenoy ran a red light at twice the speed limit, striking Mastropolo’s car and sending it 65 feet into a freight truck. Shenoy fled to India two weeks after the crash, evading justice for 20 years while fighting extradition. He was apprehended in Mumbai by U.S. Marshals and arraigned, pleading not guilty. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison. The case was enabled by the 1997 India-U.S. extradition treaty.
