Former South Carolina lawmaker Robert John May pleaded guilty to five counts of distributing child sexual abuse material via the Kik app in April 2024, admitting to sharing nearly 500 videos using the alias “joebidennnn69” across 18 states and six countries.
Though no material was found on his devices, federal investigators linked the activity to his home Wi-Fi network.
Prosecutors dropped five counts in exchange for the plea, and May faces up to 20 years per count, fines up to $250,000, mandatory restitution, lifetime supervised release, and loss of voting, firearm, and political rights.
Sentencing is set for January 14, 2026.
