A former Destiny Church member says she suffered years of abuse and was ignored by the church, which denied the claims.
Lynia Morseu-Tol, a former Destiny Church member, has publicly detailed years of physical and sexual abuse she endured as a child, including assaults by her stepfather and a failed rape at 14, which the church failed to address despite her disclosures.
She said her mother, a personal hairdresser to church leaders, urged her to forgive her abuser, leaving her isolated.
Raised in a family deeply tied to the church, she viewed founder Brian Tamaki as a spiritual father.
Now 16 years after leaving, she spoke out after seeing church members protest a children’s event during Pride, questioning the church’s commitment to child safety.
The Tamakis denied all allegations, calling them “outrageous and untrue,” and said they actively prevent abuse.
