At the 2025 SOCAN Awards in Toronto, Drake won six awards, including songwriter of the year for the fourth straight year, across rap, R&B, and dance music. Singer-songwriter Allison Russell delivered a poignant tribute to Joni Mitchell, who received the cultural impact award for “Both Sides, Now,” performing the song on clarinet and reciting a poem. Mitchell, honored in Los Angeles, received a custom musical trophy tuned to the song’s notes. Other winners included Evan Blair for co-writing “Beautiful Things,” the trio Lowell, bülow, and Nathan Ferraro for work on Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Boi-1da with the global impact award, and Swiss producer OZ, who won producer of the year and brought his children on stage. Shubh earned breakout songwriter honors. The ceremony, held at Toronto’s Rebel venue, celebrated Canadian songwriters with rapid-fire awards and performances.
