Daniel Callihan sentenced to life without parole in Mississippi for killing mother Callie Brunett and kidnapping/assaulting her two young daughters in 2024.
Daniel Wayne Callihan, 38, was sentenced to life without parole in Mississippi for the 2024 murder of mother Callie Brunett and the kidnapping and sexual assault of her two young daughters, ages four and six.
He pleaded guilty to capital murder, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of kidnapping, with sentences running consecutively to those in Louisiana and pending federal charges.
The crimes occurred after he stabbed Brunett at least 50 times, abducted the children from Louisiana, and transported them to Jackson, Mississippi, where the four-year-old died and the six-year-old survived.
Authorities tracked him using license plate readers and arrested him on June 13, 2024.
Judge Debra Gibbs called the case the most horrific she has seen, and the victim’s family opposed the death penalty to spare the surviving child from testifying.
