The act protects over 64,000 heritage sites, 90% Indigenous, and currently causes project delays when artifacts are found.
The province says over 300 stakeholder meetings have occurred, and the consultation period now extends to mid-November.
Changes aim to reduce approval times—such as for mining—from up to a decade to one year, while strengthening First Nations’ roles.
Legislation is expected by spring 2026.
