A 106-year-old woman returned a Pearl Harbor bullet that killed her husband to the memorial museum in 2025.
A 106-year-old woman, Alice Beck Darrow, returned a Japanese bullet that struck her late husband’s heart during the Pearl Harbor attack to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial Museum on September 18, 2025.
The bullet, removed during surgery after the USS West Virginia was attacked on December 7, 1941, had been kept by her husband, Navy sailor Dean Darrow, and later by Alice as a symbol of love and sacrifice.
After his death in 1991, she preserved it until donating it to honor the legacy of service.
The artifact will now be displayed as part of the museum’s collection.
