An 11-year-old Singaporean boy died by suicide after being questioned about a missing item, sparking national concern over youth mental health.
On September 29, 2025, the tragic death of 11-year-old Goh Yong Le, who died by suicide after being questioned by teachers over a missing item at school, reignited concerns about youth mental health in Singapore.
Yong Le, described as emotionally sensitive and academically strong, cried three times during the school day but was reported to have appeared “okay” afterward.
His parents, unaware of the disciplinary actions until notified by the school, said he had no known depression and was happy that day, looking forward to a new pet snail.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges in supporting emotionally vulnerable youth, as suicide remains the leading cause of death among Singaporean youth aged 10 to 29 for six consecutive years, with 314 deaths reported in 2024.
