Vodafone Idea has filed an amended petition with the Supreme Court seeking to waive interest and penalties on AGR-related dues prior to July 25, 2024, arguing the exact amount owed remains uncertain due to ongoing audits and legal disputes.
The company, which has paid undisputed dues on a self-assessment basis, contends that penalties and interest are unjust until the principal amount is finalized.
With a total debt of ₹1.7 lakh crore and annual AGR payments projected at ₹18,000 crore starting FY26—nearly double its current cash flow—Vi is also exploring non-banking funding after bank financing stalled.
The government previously converted ₹36,950 crore of debt into equity, increasing its stake to 49%.
