UK mandates social media platforms to block cyberflashing or face massive fines.
Technology Secretary Liz Kendall has announced new UK rules requiring social media platforms to detect and remove unsolicited explicit images—known as cyberflashing—or face fines of up to 10% of global revenue or service bans.
Speaking at the Labour Party conference, Kendall emphasized that cyberflashing, now a criminal offense in England and Wales since January 2024 with penalties up to two years in prison, must be treated as illegal online as it is offline.
Platforms must now proactively prevent such content, especially from reaching minors.
A YouGov study found 32% of girls aged 12 to 18 in England received unsolicited images of male genitals, with 5% affected.
The move builds on earlier actions to remove suicide- and self-harm-related content, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting users online.
El Reino Unido obliga a las plataformas de medios sociales a bloquear el ciberflashing o enfrentar multas masivas.
