Rob Frith donated a verified 1962 Beatles Decca audition tape to Paul McCartney after confirming its authenticity.
Vancouver music collector Rob Frith has donated a verified 1962 Beatles demo tape, recorded during their Decca audition, to Paul McCartney after confirming its authenticity through studio analysis.
The reel-to-reel tape, originally a copy made by a Decca producer and stored by Vancouver’s Jack Herschorn, was mistakenly believed by Frith to be a bootleg before its true origin was confirmed.
Following media attention, McCartney’s team reached out, leading to a meeting in Los Angeles on September 18, where Frith handed over the tape without seeking payment.
McCartney expressed gratitude for the donation, and Frith, a lifelong Beatles fan, received a personal autograph on a 1964 concert photo.
The tape now joins McCartney’s personal collection.
