Professor Max Hopp, a 70-year-old respected pediatrician, died in a crash on September 26, 2025, in north Griffith, NSW, after being struck by a street sweeper turning from Boonah Street onto Kooba Street. The collision occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Boonah Street, Noorebah Avenue, and Kooba Street. Despite NSW Ambulance response, Hopp was pronounced dead at the scene. The 66-year-old truck driver, unharmed, was taken to Griffith Hospital for mandatory testing and is not facing charges. Police cordoned off the area, implemented diversions, and will prepare a report for the coroner. The community mourns the loss of the well-regarded doctor and cyclist.
