Punjab has launched a real-time control room in Amritsar to monitor stubble burning using satellite data, detecting 45 incidents between September 15 and 27, 2025, with 22 confirmed fires.
Authorities promptly alert local officials, who dispatch teams to counsel farmers, while imposing environmental fines and filing legal cases.
The number is down from last year’s 59 cases, attributed to drier weather and faster harvesting.
The initiative, part of regional efforts to reduce winter air pollution in Delhi-NCR, includes promoting alternatives like bio-decomposers and honoring farmers who avoid burning, supported by the Commission for Air Quality Management and inter-state coordination.
