Northland’s state highways are undergoing major upgrades to improve safety and durability, with extensive work on SH1, SH10, and SH12.
This summer, Northland’s state highways are getting major upgrades as part of NZTA’s largest-ever regional road maintenance investment, with 204 lane kilometres of work including rebuilds, resurfacing, and chipsealing on SH1, SH10, and SH12 from north of Warkworth to Cape Reinga.
The project aims to improve road durability, safety, and resilience amid heavy rain and high traffic, with most work scheduled during warmer months and outside peak hours to reduce disruption.
Some temporary full closures may occur.
Updates, maps, and weekly e-newsletters are available via the NZTA Journey Planner and the Northland State Highway Maintenance Programme website.
Work is weather-dependent and may be adjusted.
